Angelina Ferrarella Killed with Donna D’Angelo in Car Accident

Angelina Ferrarella, 85, and Donna D’Angelo, 54, of Boca Raton, Florida, were killed in a car accident when 19-year-old Joanne Luu crashed her BMW into their car. The car containing Angelina Ferrarella and Donna D’Angelo also contained three other people: passengers Carlo D’Angelo, 56, and Peter D’Angelo, 19, as well as driver Liborio Ferrarella, 85. All three were seriously injured in the car accident.

Liberio Ferrarella and Angelina Ferrarella are Donna D’Angelo’s parents. Carl D’Angelo and Peter D’Angelo are Donna D’Angelo’s husband and son, respectively. The group was going out for after-dinner dessert and coffee and were still a block away from a relative’s home when the car accident occurred.

The deaths have reportedly left the family reeling. “We’re all just in survival mode. We’re a tight, loving family; we’re just trying to keep each other afloat,” Violet Salvietti, Ferarella’s granddaughter-in-law, told the press. Angelina Ferrarella was reportedly retired and that Donna D’Angelo worked as an special education teacher at Whispering Pines Elementary school, where she taught autistic children in an after school program.

The accident occurred at the intersection of State Road 7 and Sandalfoot Blvd at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Reports indicate that Joanne Luu and a friend, Daniel Maplethorpe, 26, were driving north in a white 2003 BMW on State Road 7 while the Ferrarella/D’Angelo clan traveled eastbound on Sandalfoot Blvd. As Ferrarella started to turn his gold 2001 Toyota left on green light where the streets intersected, Luu allegedly ran a red light, hitting the Toyota. Three witnesses told responding police that Luu had ran the red light and T-bone the other vehicle.

Officer and paramedics responded to the scene. Luu and Maplethorpe were taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries, such as scratches and bruises. Carlo and Peter D’Angelo and Liborio Ferrarella were all transported to the hospital with serious injuries following the accident. Peter D’Anglelo reportedly underwent surgery for a broken jaw. The three are reportedly at Delray Medical Center and are expected to survive their injuries.

It is not currently clear whether Anglina Ferrarella and Donna D’Angelo were pronounced dead at the scene or died later of their injuries. As of now, no charges have been filed, though police suspect that Luu was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the crash. A toxicology report is pending to determine whether the allegations are true.

Luu has been denying that she was responsible for the accident via Twitter, sources say. The day after the accident, she posted photos of her face with minor injuries and of the car accident scene along with text saying that her car had been T-boned and she had not run the red light.

Using the account name ‘jaeluu,’ Luu reportedly posted: “I did not run the f****** red light. What the f***?” and “f*** all you people harassing me about the accident.” She also tweeted, “the hospital didn’t help me at all. Thanks a lot tho.” Her account has since been suspended after readers left unsavory comments to her tweets.
